Problemas para atualizar de Ubuntu 17,10 para o mais recente

Olá pessoal, sou novo em Linux, essa é a primeira vez que uso, ontem instalei o Ubuntu versão 17,10, que é o disco que um amigo me emprestou, mas quando uso o atualizador de programas eu recebo a seguinte mensagem:

Falha ao baixar as informações do repositório
Verificar sua conexão com a internet.

Mas eu estou conectado, estou escrevendo esse tópico do computador com wifi (Já testei com o cabo, mesma mensagem)... não entendo isso.



E quando clico em programas aparece a seguinte mensagem:
Não foi possivel baixar a atualização de firmware de "fwupd"

Também quando vou no terminal seguir uma sugestão desse forum, mas não adiantou:

O que devo fazer, sendo que já reinstalei o Ubuntu 2 vezes, e continuo com esse mesmo problema?

Espero que esse seja um problema simples, e que apenas minha falta de conhecimento sobre o linux seja o problema

-COMO O UBUNTU-17.10 ESTÁ SEM SUPORTE DESDE JULHO/2018 É POUCO PROVÁVEL QUE SEJA POSSÍVEL ATUALIZAR P/ UMA NOVA VERSÃO
-SUGIRO QUE FAÇA BKP DE SEUS ARQUIVOS E DEPOIS FAÇA INSTALAÇÃO LIMPA DO 18.04 QUE TERÁ SUPORTE ATÉ ABRIL/2023 OU 20.04 QUE TERÁ SUPORTE ATÉ ABRIL/2025
-CASO TENHA RAIZ + HOME EM PARTIÇÕES SEPARADAS TENTE ESTA DICA
