Estou usando o ubuntu 11.10 e fui atualizar.Ai aparece uma janela mencionando erro.

Instalou do zero ou atualizou a distro que já tinha instalado?

Você adicionou as chaves GPGs???????????

Por que está com os repositórios do Ubuntu Edgy? Precisa deles?

Se não precisa, pode deletar. No terminal:
$ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Das linhas 58 à 67, pode deletar todas.
Depois SALVE E FECHE o Gedit. Atualize os repositórios:
$ sudo apt-get update

E: Alguns arquivos index falharam ao ser baixados. Eles foram ignorados, ou cópias antigas são usadas ao invés.

Faça o seguinte, reabra o Sources.List:
$ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Você vai comentar algumas linhas. O que é isso? simplesmente vai colocar o sinal de trave( # ) nas linhas que eu indicar.
No Sources.list coloque o # em linhas começadas com: 'deb-src'. Como pode ver tem muitas. Pois faça em todas que começam assim.
Exemplo na linha nº 6, que é a primeira a ser comentada. Ficará assim:

# deb-src http://br.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric main restricted

 

Entendeu? Faça isso com todas que começam com 'deb-src', e somente nestas.
Depois SALVE E FECHE o Gedit e atualize os repositórios:

$ sudo apt-get update

Retorne com o resultado, há mais coisas a fazer.
