Ubuntu 14.10 já acabou suporte.
Melhor baixar uma versão mais recente do sistema.

De todo o caso, vc ainda pode editar os repositórios e colocar old release, pesquise sobre Ubuntu old release que vc entenderá melhor como funciona.

Como Ubuntu-14.10 já está sem suporte desde julho/2015 eu faria bkp de meus arquivos e depois instalaria a partir do dvd/pendrive Ubuntu-14.04-lts que terá suporte até abril/2019

Se não quer reinstalar tente isto

1-faça bkp de seus arquivos imperdíveis

2-vá em programa-atualizações >> outros-progrmas >> desative todos PPA >> feche programa

3-edite sua sources.list
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

4-apague todo conteúdo e cole o conteúdo abaixo

5-salve e feche o arquivo

6-abra terminal e atualize
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Acho que antes disso ele precisa passar os repositórios para old stable para deixar a versão dele bem atualizada, so depois atualizar para outra, diminui a chance de erros acontecerem.

Instale o 14.04 porque eu ja tentei atualizar e no fim o que a gente tem e um sistema pesado e que da problema ate pra instalar um programa tipo o virtualbox.
O que sera que acontece com os pacotes de arroz que sao furados por ratos no supermercado?

Testei essa dica com sucesso!
Mas o mais indicado seria instalar o ubuntu-14.04.3-lts

clodoaldops, seu tutorial esta certissimo.
O que eu citei é o recomendado por muitos sites, primeiro ele muda os repositórios para old stable para que a versão 14.10 esteje atualizada, só depois ele realizaria a atualização para o 15.04 como vc explicou no seu tutorial.
Mas pode ser que funcione tb sem estar atualizado, isso depende muito da sorte, como Ubuntu não é rolling release pode dar algum problema atualizar uma versão para outra sem estar totalmente em dia com a versao antiga.
Isso é o que maioria dos sites que ensinam fazer o procedimento ensina.
