Alto consumo da memória

Não sou fera em linux mais tenho um servidor dedicado que tem uma semana que ta me dando muita dor de cabeça, ele freqüentemente trava devido ao alto consumo da memória não tem hora especifica pode ser durando um pico de acesso ou ate mesmo durante a madruga, percebo o seguinte, apóis vários dias monitorando o consumo da memório percebo que o normal é consumir 2 a 3 gigas de memória ( o servidor tem 8 gigas) mais em uma certa hora do dia ( pode ser 1 ou até 3x no dia) esse consumo sobe rapidamente se chegar a 6 gigas e ele não diminui mais vai consumindo toda a memória ate começar a usar o swap e quando isso ocorre o serv fica muito lento chegando a sair do ar.

fiquei monitorando a cada 20 minutos e tudo ia bem umas 3 horas sem problema derrepente fui ver a memória e derrepente ja tava com 6gigas(vinte minutos antes tava com uns 2gigas de uso) em uso foi o tempo de dar um print no comando top e a máquina travou, agora tenho que entrar em contato com o provedor que fica na florida perder um tempo para eles darem um reset manual na maquina, com isso o site fica ums 30minutos fora do ar e eu não posso fazer nada.

estou monitorando tambem o apache atraves do "Apache Server Status" no momento do alto consumo da memoria estava assim:

Estou tendo um problema parecido com o teu no meu servidor web, por mera coincidência, tem uma configuração equivalente a tua.
A parte do apache até que consegui estabilizar depois de muito custo. Se tu quiser até te mando meu httpd.conf, mas agora estou com problema no mysql que, vira e mexe, dá database error na página, e isso com poucos usuários acessando.
Se tento mexer nas configurações do apache e do próprio mysql aumentando o número de usuários, volta a dar o problema que você citou... a memória vai lá em cima até o serviço travar.

Você já arrumou alguma solução?

ouvi alguem dizer que tava com algo parecido com o seu problema. muito parecido, o problema era hardware, vou dizer porque.

o monitoramento do uso da RAM monitorava so o usuario atual, mas outros usuários estavam logados e com processos consumindo memoria! entao ele estava gastando mais RAM do que aparecia no monitoramento.

a solução desse cara , diss ele, foi mais 8GB de ram.

o problema começou a quanto tempo? a quanto tempo você esta rodando esse servidor?, os pacotes do mysql e apache estao bem atualizados? ja tentou restartar o serviço? tente reiniciar primeiro o apache quando a memoria estiver quase cheia, caso o consumo de memoria volte ao normal, reinstale o apache ou atualize-o... bom nao li tudo que vc postou, portanto posso estar errado, mas qdo sobrar um tempinho dou mais uma lida, tente reiniciar o serviço que esta consumindo muita memoria, caso o consumo baixe, você pode fazer uma solução meio muito quebra galho =] agende no cron para reiniciar o servidor a cada 1 hora por exemplo, enquanto isso faça backup do seu servidor e tente reinstalar o serviço que esta consumindo tanta memoria...

Creio que o problema estaja no teu apache.
Analizando o teu httpd.conf, veja as considerações:
StartServers 8 => instâncias do apache inicializadas
MinSpareServers 5 => mínimo de instâncias abertas para atender o servidor quando as 8 estiverem ocupadas.
MaxSpareServers 20 => máximo de instâncias "reservas"
MaxClients 500 => máximo de clientes 501 apresentará a mensagem server busy.

Então vamos lá!

Cada instância do apache ocupa cerca de 7M. com o pico de 500 usuários simultâneos, ele pode consumir 7x500=3500 ou 3,5G.
Bastante memória.
Tente altarar somente a quantidade máxima de clientes para um número menor para testes.

Cara, provavelmente seu problema está aqui: Kernel and CPU Linux 2.6.18-92.1.22.el5PAE on i686.
Mesmo com o PAE disponibilizando o uso de memória acima de 4GB, sinceramente é quase certeza que seu kernel está gerenciando porcamente sua memória.
Tive um problema semelhante com esse, embora fosse com uma versão mais antiga de centos. E a solução foi trocar o kernel por um hugemem (que não existe mais no centos5.x); sinceramente eu mudaria seu kernel e se possível todo o sistema operacional p/ 64 bits.

Apesar do alto consumo da memoria do apache o verdfadeiro problema esta no mysql, minha base de dados estava com mais de 200megas e mais de 400mil registros, dei uma penerada na minha base de dados hoje ela tem 250mil dados e um pouco mais de 150megas, com isso o problema sumiu, mais não sei como farei no futuro pois tenho uma media de 3mil novos dados diarios na minha tabela.

Caso alguem tenha uma ideia de solucao eu agradeco

Dê o comando df -h e verifique o espaço livre das unidades. Já aconteceu comigo de ter erros no MySQL e gerar muito log e encher a unidade de disco, aí o load do server vai la em cima e uso de memória Também.
