apt-get não inicia...

Olá meus caros da comunidade... estou tentando acessar o apt-get e ele não inicia dá uma menssagem dizendo que: BANCO DE DADOS TRAVADO "outro processo está usando o banco de dados do sistema de pacotes(provavelmente outra aplicação adept ou apt-get ou aptitude) por favor feche a outra aplicação antes de usá-la novamente."
Como posso destravá-lo?

Entre num terminal como root e dê o comando:

# ps aux

depois identifique o número do processo relativo ao apt-get e dê o comando:

# kill numero_do_processo

Essa mensagem aparece quando algum processo envolvendo o atp está rolando e vc solicita, por exemplo, o apt-get update. Vc deve terminar o processo inicial, e o comando ps aux mostra todos os processos que aparecem na máquina, com a sua respectiva identificação. Caso vc não consiga identificar o processo, feche a sessão ou( sendo mais truculento) reinicie o sistema.

Já reeniciei o computador e nada, fiz com a internet ligada e desligada.
Acima vc não identificou algo que passou despercebido?

#aptitude update
depois
#aptitude install <pacote>

Quando esta travado acontece quando vc demora atualizar a lista ae vc manda atualizar denovo e sempre revolveu comigo.

Qualquer coisa especifica melhor, a distro que ta usando, qual usuario, e tal.

uso Kubuntu 7.04, tentei o que vc me disse e não deu certou aconteceu isso:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: Não foi possível reconstruir cache de pacotes

eu tbm recomendo a atualização, pq eh mais seguro, senao vc pode acabar fechando um processo essencial da maquina e ela parar inteira :( ...
