Se eu entendi você quer fazer uma apresentação de slides tipo Power Point.
isso se faz com o OpenOffice Impress.
No menu: Inserir>Filme e som;

Deve funcionar , foi feito para isso.

Existe uma outra suite para Linux que é da IBM -Lotus,, é o Lotus symphony
Se a IBM não mudou de idéia ele é gratis legalmente mas não é open source.
Vá lá que a IBM é cabeça avoada e pode ter mudado de idéia;
Eu testei ele uma vez e é típico de coisa da IBM: Muito bem feito, excelente e pesadíssimo.

(sub-albums not supported!) and to generate an appropriate input file to
dvd-slideshow.

Does the same thing as gallery2slideshow, but works on a jigl gallery

Use o Draw, que está no pacote do OpenOffice.
