Erro ao executar o comando sudo mysql_install_db_

Ao rodar este comando tenho o seguinte retorno:
2018-05-29 15:20:43 [WARNING] mysql_install_db is deprecated. Please consider switching to mysqld --initialize
2018-05-29 15:20:43 [ERROR] The data directory needs to be specified.

Alguém consegue me ajudar?, estou usando o Ubuntu 16.04
