Telas de display não aparece

Ola amigos, estou com o seguinte problema: tenho um note HP DV6-3240BR com o Ubuntu 14.04 porém ele esta com problemas, por exemplo, quando abro um programa que necessita de abrir uma janela (de configuração, por exemplo) não aparece nada, nem o programa nem a janela, percebi este problema com o Filezilla quando pede a tela de salvar a senha, e o JDownloader que verifica as atualizações?
o que pode ser isto?

tente abrir alguma coisa que não está funcionando, mas com comando e poste o resultado aqui.

seu terminal está abrindo?
