-com o live-cd do ubuntu entre procure pela pasta UBUNTU dentro do windows
-se não me engano está na pasta documents/settings do windows
-usei wubi em 2009
-basta procurar pela pasta UBUNTU pelo live-cd

Isso, mas como os arquivos ficam dentro de um arquivo(alguma-coisa.disk se não me engano), monte as partições do windows no Ubuntu e procure pelo arquivo do disco do Ubuntu no wubi:

$ sudo su -
# mkdir /mnt/windows1
# mkdir /mnt/windows2
# mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /mnt/windows1
# mount -t ntfs /dev/sda5 /mnt/windows2
# updatedb
# locate *.disk <==poste o resultado deste comando

Você não consegue iniciar com o windows, consegue?

Não, usando o Ubuntu que instalou, execute:

$ sudo su -

# mkdir /mnt/windows1

# mkdir /mnt/windows2

# mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /mnt/windows1

# mount -t ntfs /dev/sda5 /mnt/windows2

# updatedb

# locate *.disk  <==poste o resultado deste comando

Algum erro ao montar as partições (os comandos iniciados com mount)?
Ao executar locate *.disk (locate + asterisco ponto disk, sem espaços no asterisco ponto disk ) apenas os arquivos que tenham nome com final .disk deveriam aparecer, tente executar novamente:

# updatedb

# locate *.disk

Acredito que não me expressei bem, não pode haver espaços entre o "*" e o ".disk"
algo como: locate espaço asteriscopontodisk ( locate *.disk ).
