Beryl e Ubuntu 7.04, aqui tá difícil dar certo.

Antes de tudo gostaria de dizer que sou novato no universo Linux, então se me disserem coisas como: "instale o universe e multiverse" sem me dizer como fazer isso, será como dizer a um peregrino no deserto que ele encontra água em um oásis, sem no caso lhe dizer onde está o oásis.
Tenho pesquisado com afinco uma forma de fazer com que o Beryl rode em meu Ubuntu a um bom tempo, e sempre com frustração. Para evitar quaisquer dúvidas vou dar todos os detalhes de minha luta para que na minha esperança haja alguém que me auxilie nessa empreitada.
Muito bem, atualmente estou usando o Ubuntu 7,04 Feisty Fawn e começarei colocando a configuração de minha máquina para análise:
AMD 64 Athlon X2 4200+
MB Asus M2N-E
RAM 2 GB DDR2 667
2 HDs SATA com 120 e 160 GB respectivamente
1 HD IDE 80 GB (este contém o Linux)
ATI Radeon 1600 Pro 512 MB
Depois de rachar a cuca pesquisando na net uma forma de solucionar meu problema, descobri que necessitaria instalar os drivers de minha placa de video, para que pudesse ter os efeitos 3D do Beryl funcionando. Fui ao site baixei os driver e instalei no micro, seguindo o tutorial desse rapaz: http://my.opera.com/furikao/blog/2007/04/12/instalacion-drivers-ati-radeon-8-35-5-gnu-linux-version-...
Segui e fiz tudo o que estava lá, com adaptações é claro, pois uso o Ubuntu 7.04 x86_64 AMD.
Deu tudo certo, e eu já tinha inclusive instalado o Beryl na máquina usando algumas dicas daqui, e depois de resolver problemas de algumas dependências, foi instalado com sucesso. Na hora de reiniciar a máquina, já com o driver e o Beryl instalado (mas não executado), após entrar com meu login e senha minha tela fica branca, e sou obrigado a resetar o X para poder ao menos desligar corretamente a máquina. Sei que dúvidas como a minha há em vários tópicos aqui, e podem apostar que se não li todos eles, estou muito próximo disso, sem no entanto, resolver meu problema. Se minha máquina com a configuração que tem, não consegue rodar o Beryl no Ubuntu, o que então rodará?
Desde já sou grato pelos colegas que se disporem a me ajudar, qualquer ajuda é bem vinda. Ainda tenho esperança de rodar os dois aqui.

post seu xorg.conf aqui!!!!

abra um terminal e digite:

# gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

e post oque tiver dentro aqui:

Devido ao meu pouco conhecimento, tive que reinstalar o Ubuntu, e o meu xorg.conf logo após a atualização está assim:

O beryl ja foi descontinuado, agora é compiz-fusion, procure por ele,

Mais seu xorg ta drive Vesa, instale o proprietario,como fez antes, e veja se ativou o 3D.

Instalei e funcionou, agora finalmente quando entro com "linux:~$ glxinfo | grep direct", tenho como resposta
direct rendering: Yes
Segui o link que me foi pasado, e terminei de instalar e configurar tudo.
Ainda tive alguns erros para resolver, mas agora tudo está quase funcionando, estou ainda com um problema nas bordas de minhas janelas e as barras de Título não estão aparecendo. Isto eu ainda não consegui resolver.
