Placa de rede wireless Atheros não funciona corretamente no Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64-bit

Oi pessoal. Minha placa de rede wireless Atheros não funciona corretamente no Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64-bit. Mesmo do lado do roteador o sinal fica a 70%. Se vou pra outro cômodo, o sinal não é suficiente nem para conectar. A conexão é fraca e intermitente. Já tentei mais de 10 soluções que encontrei na rede (inclusive instalar o driver correto) e nada resolve. Não é um problema de hardware já que no meu Windows 10, a placa funciona normalmente.

Tens o pacote linux-firmware instalado? E pra gente poder saber qual driver ela ta usando, roda no terminal

-sua wifi não é realtek >> sua wifi é uma atheros >> network controller

-sua realtek é internet via cabo >> ethernet controller

-se sua wifi detecta e conecta nas redes disponíveis não muito que fazer

-talvez instalando um kernel mais novo ajude

Instalei o kernel mais novo (foi uma das possíveis soluções que eu testei) e começou a dar ruim. Voltei com o kernel antigo.

Corrigi o título do tópico. Mas como assim não há o que fazer? No Windows ela não deu problema. E vc há de concordar comigo que um wifi que só conecta se vc estiver colado no roteador não é muito funcional...

Atheros sempre teve problema em linux e pelo visto sempre terá, é quase a sis dos adaptadores wireless.

Não posso reproduzir o fenômeno pois não tenho o hardware wifi citado nem Mint 18.3 Cinammon 64 bits.

1- Qual é o kernel antigo e o novo em uso?
obs:
- Mint 18.3 não vem com kernel LTS (longo tempo de suporte) e sim com HWE (suporte a hardware recente)
- mudar kernel é loteria. tentativa e erro.
- kernel 4.10. ...... (original Mint 18.3) sem suporte
- Mint sugere mudar para 4.13.26 .... ou superior, há relatos de problemas. Migração para serie 4.13 ... feita as pressas devido a Meltdown e Specter.
- ver o que sugere o gerenciador de atualizações
- Eu uso Mint 17.3. Kernel original era 3.19.0.32, atualizei para recomendado 4.4.0 lts1 que aponta para 4.4.0.109 original Lts de Mint 18 e 18.1, até agora sem problemas

2- Fatos são fatos e tampar o sol com a peneira não leva a lugar algum. Infelizmente há hardwares e periféricos que não funcionam bem em Linux.
- verifique se gerenciador de drivers sugere alguma coisa.

1- mudei para o kernel 4.13.32 (sugeridopelogerenciador de atualizações). vários bugs. voltei para o original 4.10.0-38. qual kernel vc recomendaria pro 18.3? aliás, depois que eu voltei para o 4.10.0 surgiu um bug mto chato, fala que gnome-keyring-daemon não está respondendo toda vez que vou desligar o sistema......

2- o gerenciador de drivers não sugere nada

Meu notebook está 100% funcional com kernel 4.15
Use o UKUU para instalar e remover kernel do Ubuntu e LinuxMint facilmente
