Problemas com a instalação do java

Caras fui instalar o j2sdk em minha máquina, baixei, descompactei, copiei para a pasta usr/local, quando fiu editar o etc/profile como manda o tutorial, não encontrei a diretiva PATH, olha como esta o meu profile:

O que devo fazer?

Edita este arquivo:
# gedit /etc/bash.bashrc

E coloca isso la no final:
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_14
export PATH=:/usr/java/jdk1.5.0_14/bin:$PATH

Obs.: Coloca o diretório certo e a versão exata.

No ubuntu em vez de editar o arquivo profile vc edita o arquivo: #gedit /etc/bash.bashrc

resolvi meu problema com java com um tuto do site www.superconf.com eu uso debian etch
