Postgree

Sou novo no linux e estou instalando o postgresql 8.3.1 no ubuntu 7.10 e quando digito ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/pgsql --without-readline --without-zlib
dá o seguinte erro hecking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
checking which template to use... linux
checking whether to build with 64-bit integer date/time support... no
checking whether NLS is wanted... no
checking for default port number... 5432
checking for gcc... gcc
checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
preciso de ajuda!!

Tente um:
$ sudo apt-get install build-essential

antes de instalar o postgresql.

Este comando tbm pode ser executado no Mandriva?
