Sistema funcionando irregularmente [RESOLVIDO]

Caros senhores, após tentar instalar o java no ubutun 10.04, ouve algum problema que não me permite acessar o synaptic nem a central de programas mostra os programas instalados. aparece uma mensagem de Erro:'E:Linha mal formada 48 no arquivo de fontes /etc/apt/sources.list (análise de distribuição), E:A lista de fontes não pode ser lida.'
Peço ajuda para solucionar o problema.

Você pelo menos LEU a mensagem de erro antes de se apavorar?
Diga o que você consegue entender por ela.

Caro tlaloc, li a mensagem e tenho tentado resolver o problema sem êxito, até o cd de instalação já coloquei para ver se resolvia e nada, entendo que na tentaviva de instalar o java algum comando errado foi digitado ou interrompi alguma instalação de pacote e o erro foi gerado, não acesso o synapitic, programas instados e nem gerrenciador de instalações. Se puder me ajudar fico desde já agradecido.

Provavelmente terá que remover/consertar essa linha.
Aplique no terminal: sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Depois cole o resultado aqui.

Tem certeza que só tem isso?
O erro aponta a linha 48, mas não há linha 48 nisso!

Aparece isso, não sei o que é a linha 48!

Tentei atualizar para a versão 10.10 e não aceita. Manda eu corrigir algum erro.

Remova as linhas que indiquei, execute apt-get update
e depois veja se resolveu o problema.

como as removo?
