tenta isso pluga o cabo de rede : como root.

# dhcpcd eth0

e depois

# ping -i 3 google.com.br

instalei aqui o ubuntu 11.10 com o drive genérico rt2800 e funcionou.O drive identificou a minha rede, então eu só precisei criar uma nova conexão e configurar a rede manualmente.
Agradeço a colaboração de todos.
